Baby Rebecca was born premature at 28 weeks, weighing 1000gms. Rebecca’s mother said, “I woke up with sharp pains in my stomach and back accompanied with a feeling of tightness. I was worried because it was my first pregnancy, and I didn’t know what to do.”
She and her husband rushed to the nearest hospital where they were told she was in labour. It wasn’t long before the baby was born. They were referred to Dreamland Mission Hospital immediately because the baby needed urgent care in a specialist unit that the hospital they were in didn’t have.
The baby was admitted to Dreamland’s New Born Unit with respiratory distress syndrome and very low birth weight. She was nursed in an incubator for a few weeks and later discharged to an open cot after she had shown significant improvement.
After 32 days in the unit baby Rebecca was discharged home and today is very stable, breastfeeding on demand and currently weighing 1998gms.
Baby Rebecca’s mother is so glad to have met the incredible team at the unit and for all the care her daughter received.
