Yomp Mountain Challenge - Raising Funds For Dreamland Education Centre

On Saturday 14 June 2025, we’re taking on the Yomp Mountain Challenge to raise funds for Dreamland Education Centre (DEC) — our school in Kimilili that’s been transforming children’s lives for over 20 years.

Our goal is to raise £40,000 to fund some urgent needs at our school.  It’s a bold goal but we have some amazing news…

Thanks to a generous match-funding offer, EVERY £1 DONATED WILL BE TRIPLED (up to £10,000)!  That means your gift can go three times as far!

The Challenge is a series of organised hikes and runs in the hills around Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria. With routes ranging from a gentle 5K to an Ultra 65K, there’s something for everyone! It’s a well-established, fully supported event now in its 40th year.  yompmountainchallenge.com.

Here’s how you can help:

👉 Join us for the Yomp Challenge in person.
👉 Take on your own challenge where you live — walk, run, bike — whatever gets you moving!
👉 Donate to support the cause if you can’t take part.
👉 Spread the word around your friends and family – we can provide you with resources to do that.

Our team at DEC urgently need funds to:

✅ Replace the dilapidated kitchen and dining room
✅ Restore the broken rainwater tank
✅ Renovate the muddy playground
✅ Cover school fees so that more kids can access education

Parts of DEC’s infrastructure are long overdue for refurbishment. The central playground requires major renovation, and the rainwater storage tank beneath it needs repair to be operational again.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s education system is evolving, with the government encouraging schools to offer both primary and secondary education. Originally established as a primary school, DEC now includes a Junior High and aims to expand to Senior High. To support this growth, additional buildings and resources are needed, including a new, larger kitchen and dining hall.

By improving and developing our facilities we’re not only aiming to expand our educational capacity in future years, but we’re also creating a safe, suitable and fun environment for the children we serve.
