Two Weeks Until Our 24 Hour Challenge!

We’re excited for our fundraising challenge on 14th & 15th May! As a reminder, we’re raising funds to provide more orthopaedic surgeries for those who need it in Kimilili – something that few people there can afford, especially if metalwork is required. We’re aiming to raise £40,000 – a bold target but we’re already over 30% there! Please consider donating to the challenge – and bear in mind that every donation will be doubled by match funding, making your gift go twice as far!

Our goal is to run or walk 1,000 laps over a 24 hour period. You’re invited to join us at Windmill Farm, Chalfont St Giles, to run, walk or simply cheer us on while enjoying tea and cake. We would love to see you there. Our friends at MedAid will also be there to showcase some of the equipment needed for these limb-saving surgeries.

To inspire you, Andy from Beyond Finance, our partner who is hosting the challenge, shares why he’s taking part, below.

Some people have said I’m crazy to have the ambition to run 100 miles in 24 hours, the equivalent of nearly four marathons. It’s a mammoth challenge, but I’m deeply motivated by the prospect of the whole fundraising event, and here’s why.

I’ve learned that some things simply can’t be fixed, and that brings huge frustration and disappointment. A personal example is my daughter’s health. Over the past eight years, despite speaking to health professionals and searching for answers, there have been none. Through it all, we have had to keep trusting God for her future. In the midst of that, I have felt a growing desire to make a difference where things can be changed, and to put my energy into helping bring about tangible good.

That’s why I’m so passionate about the orthopaedic fundraising project for Dreamland Mission Hospital. I love the whole ethos of what they do. Every penny given genuinely changes lives. It’s a joy to have found this organisation and to partner with them in their work.

I’ve taken the preparation for this challenge more seriously than ever before. Over the past month or so, I’ve been doing weekly Monday marathons before work! One of those runs was 52km at 2:41 in the morning, helping me prepare for the physical and mental challenge of running long distances through the night on tired legs.

By putting my body through this 24-hour challenge, I hope together we can unlock funding for orthopaedic surgeries that will save and transform 100 lives. I would love to see you there at some point during the event. And if you are looking for an opportunity to dig deep and give generously, this is a truly worthwhile one. Thank you so much to those who have already donated and to those planning to do so. Together, we really can make a difference!
